The City Library's Archives encompass two separate areas in the Main Library:
Periodicals Archives (Level 2) offers thousands of historic magazines, newspapers on microfilm, local news clippings, and zines. The oldest magazine in our collection is the North American Review from 1821. The oldest newspaper in our collection is a microfilm copy of Deseret News Weekly from June 15, 1850.
Special Collections (Level 4) include books on local history and ephemera related to local history (such as photographs, maps, and slides). In addition to published works, Special Collections includes Masonic Library Records, Library Scrapbooks, Sammelbände Pamphlets, and showcases an original copy of The Birds of America by John James Audubon.

Use the catalog to search Special Collections and/or Periodicals for historic books, newspapers, and magazines.
Patrons are welcome to read items in-person at the Main Library; however, please note that most of these items are only available for reading within the Library and cannot leave the building. Scanners and microfilm readers are available for patron use.
The City Library offers free access to a variety of online resources that support everything from historical research and academic study to staying informed with today’s news. These resources include local, national, and international newspapers, historical archives, genealogy records, legal documents, and magazines.
Explore a research topic or special interest with help from a librarian. Walk-in assistance happens the 3rd Thursday of each month from 5–7pm at the Main Library's Level 2 Periodicals Desk.
